My practical, and emotional support was about to begin, and I was not disappointed.

After hearing the words “you are now at stage 4 cancer” and having to come to terms with the shock, fear, uncertainties and what happens next mode? I later found that I was worrying unnecessarily.

I was fortunate to be under the excellent care of a competent North Shore Oncologist and a sympathetic personal GP, I was referred, by both, to the North Shore Palliative & Supportive Care Program.

There, immediately after the initial interview and assessment, I knew I was in good hands, with a much needed calming effect.

My practical, and emotional support was about to begin, and I was not disappointed.

I was enrolled in the “Every Day Counts Program”, that patients and, just as importantly, their families can access on a daily basis, if and when needed.  Every Day Counts offers balance to your life providing a comprehensive calendar of daily activities.

Personally, I found that every level of yoga ( be it restorative or strengthening) and the music therapy very beneficial. Also the fun programs such as “Portrait in the Garden” was amazing.

The beautiful Zen-like garden attached to the facility is now one of my favourite havens. (Kudos to the Master Gardeners).

I would highly recommend to anyone who has had a big “C” diagnosis to contact, check out, and tap into these wonderful services.
